Spring:settle debts;Summer:reverse misfortunes;Winter:redeem the lost souls

The sculpture  A Being , created by artist Wang Jianwei, was featured in the exhibition “Spring:settle debts;Summer:reverse misfortunes;Winter:redeem the lost souls” at the 798 Art District in Beijing on May 26, 2026.

A Being seems to prepare you for the beginning of a journey beyond the present world—or perhaps it is merely a ritual. In reality, it is a farewell to existing or known worlds, a preparation to embrace a world you do not yet fully understand. By giving concrete form to this ritual and listing specific elements—wood, paint, contours, and curves—it creates a reality. Sculpture is the story of re-enumerating the things in this world and thereby taking possession of it.
