Artist’s Treats

The “Artist’s Treats” project, in which Wang Jianwei participated, officially opened at Hol Gallery on November 6, 2025.

This exhibition will feature Wang Jianwei’s 2025 sculpture  The Actor , which expresses the idea that in any action, every agent possesses sufficient energy to generate efficacy and has the ability to alter and influence the event. If a sculpture is understood as the action of an agent, then I am merely a part of that agent. I, my hands, and other components—electricity, grinders, and paint—work together. Through constant modification, change, and repetition, this collaborative process interacts and influences the development of the entire project. They and I both become agents; this capacity is an expression of all things being what they are, rather than any single, more decisive role.

Art is the work of a multitude of agents; we have merely extracted certain causal relationships and attributed them to humans. This system of attribution is collapsing, and non-human objects are being liberated from this collapse.
